<image:caption>Éilís Kennedy Eilís Kennedy was born and raised in the heart of West Kerry, to parents who passed on a lifelong and committed interest in the poetry and songs of that region. She has been fortunate to have had the opportunity to listen to many of the finest exponents of song in her locality. The emotion and stories associated with Gaelic singing thus informed her love of song. Éilís plays whistle and Irish flute and is a fluent Gaelic speaker. Her three solo albums have featured William Coulter on guitar and they have worked together on music projects and tours, most recently with violinist Edwin Huizinga. Her solo album “Westward" was released to critical acclaim in December 2016 and led to Eílís being awarded Live Ireland’s Female Vocalist of the Year 2018. Her latest album “So Ends This Day” was released in 2020. To See Her site, CLICK HERE</image:caption>

      <image:title>What We Do - Summer Music Camps</image:title>
<image:caption>Each summer CMS produces traditional music camps for children, teens, and adults. Kid and Teen Camps are staffed by teachers and teaching assistants (TAs) specializing in traditional folk music from the Celtic diaspora and beyond. All of our camps feature faculty who are not only professional musicians, but outstanding instructors. Students learn and perform in small bands and as a full orchestra. Evening activities for teens include Irish and Contra dance classes, a movie night, and a lively traditional ceilidh at the end of the week. Both Kid Camp and Teen Camp end with a performance for friends and family. Redwood Music Camp is a music camp experience for grown-ups – a weekend of music workshops with all meals and lodging provided.</image:caption>

      <image:title>What We Do - Concerts</image:title>
<image:caption>Every January, we host the Santa Cruz Harp Festival, a concert featuring music from throughout the world on harps of all kinds. The concert includes performances by professional harp players, as well as the all-ages Community Music School Harp Orchestra. A harp “petting zoo” is available during intermission for the harp-curious. Each October, we hold a concert at a local winery or brewery to raise funds for our youth music programs. Listen to some of the best players of traditional acoustic music in Santa Cruz County while supporting Community Music School!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Through this instrument adoption program we place donated instruments with people and organizations that need them. Music Match adoption is available for music students of all ages. We often partner with other local music-centered nonprofits to place instruments, such as El Sistema, Activities4All, and Senderos. We accept most small instruments (guitars, flutes, violins, etc.) that are in good shape. Unfortunately, we cannot accept pianos and other large instruments.</image:caption>

<image:caption>John Weed - irish fiddle John Weed, fiddler for Molly’s Revenge and New World String Project, has spent the last 30 years immersed in various fiddle styles. With an affinity for folk traditions, John’s exploration has emphasized Irish, Scottish, Swedish, and Old-Time fiddle. While he holds a bachelor’s degree of music from CSU Chico, the musical education that charted his path began through a long series of Irish sessions. There, he learned the nuance of aural passing of melodies and the tradition of conversing in a deeply musical manner. John’s passion for the vital expressiveness of the session lead to performing across the United States and internationally. In addition to being a full time performer and instructor, John is currently on faculty at Palenke Arts, a multicultural arts organization in Seaside, California.</image:caption>
